Educator & Lifelong Learner

I started Solution Spaces to remind teachers to celebrate when students engage in behaviors that lead them to solutions, rather than focus on the value of solutions alone.

Hello! My name is Adrienne Baytops Paul and I am the founder of Solution Spaces and creator of The Celebration Series. I have been an educator for over 25 years. I began as an English Language Arts teacher, then transitioned to mathematics when I saw the need for students and teachers--including myself--to become more comfortable with the subject. My math journey has long been grounded in my philosophy, which focuses on a psychological approach to math to build and ensure comfort in risk-taking, understanding, and perseverance, all of which support a growth mindset. Here's some of the work I've completed along my journey:
-
collaborated with teachers to deepen my conceptual understanding,
-
used Jo Boaler's How to Learn Math (2013), WIM, and Mindset Mathematics series to create safe math learning spaces (2013-present),
-
taught math at the K-8 levels,
-
detracked pre-algebra with the Building Thinking Classrooms methodology (2021-2022),
-
coached middle and high school math teachers (2021-present),
-
created professional learning content for math educators all over the country (2011-present),
-
review and advise on CORE Learning's Online Math Academy (2025-present)
-
had my writing and research published (2019-present),
-
conduct research as part of the Gates Foundation's Math Narrative Community Project (2024-present), and
-
presented at numerous mathematics conferences.
I continue to learn and grow as an educator and learner and am always searching for ways to help others strengthen their competency in mathematics teaching and learning.
My math journey has confirmed for me that there's more to math learning than getting the right answer--and students deserve to know this, too. Let's celebrate student voice in the math classroom.
