In this final series of BTC posts, I offer guidance I gleaned during the course of our BTC implementation. Arming yourself with BTC knowledge supports a more competent level of implementation. Operating from an asset-based lens caused us to identify and value ways to measure student learning and understanding, rather than focus on their temporary misconceptions.

When math students engage in multiple modes of learning, they internalize concepts together and cultivate safe learning environments for each other.

When math teachers are intentional about their instructional conditions, students of all ability levels can learn from each other.

Non-curricular math tasks are easy tools to use to build classroom community when planned with intention.

Intentional questions and productive struggle create opportunities for math discourse.

The high level of engagement by multiple students would not have happened if I had stepped in and corrected the student.

🛑 Bringing our research with the Math Narrative Project to a close is a bittersweet moment. 

Hoping my summer children have a wonderful school year, that their love for math continues to grow, and that their teachers always remember to hashtag#letThemspeak🗣️during math.

Math teachers deepen their math standards knowledge

⭐️ Honored, humbled, awestruck, protected, inspired, grateful…I still can’t find the words that adequately encapsulate my experience at the Black Male Educators Convening. I’ve attended easily over a hundred educational events and nothing comes close to the feelings this event evoked.
