⭐️ Honored, humbled, awestruck, protected, inspired, grateful…I still can’t find the words that adequately encapsulate my experience at the Black Male Educators Convening. I’ve attended easily over a hundred educational events and nothing comes close to the feelings this event evoked.
⭐️Brothers were in deep, intentional community with one another, sharing and strengthening their gifts so they could all leave the space stronger, better, wiser, and activated.
⭐️ I attended sessions that advanced my thinking, thanks to Alexander Byrd and Okera Hawkins; I ideated on data-driven decisions that best support our Black boys and on math standards planning; I was filled with fortitudinous words from Dr. Andre Samuels, Ed.D., Dr. William Hayes, and other incredible leaders. Thank you so much.
⭐️ There was a small but mighty group that attended my session. I encouraged them to prioritize relationships by using math tasks to create community, and to tap into research-based practices of Building Thinking Clasrooms to sustain mathematical thinking. The brothers participated in activities and brainstormed on how to improve/adapt them for students.
⭐️ We’re only in March, yet this is already my favorite PL experience of 2025.
⭐️To the brothers with whom I connected, thank you for sharing your space with me. I look forward to following your ascensions from afar, and if you ever need my support, I’m here~
